Master of Finance

Learn to maximize global diversification of financial portfolios, shareholder value, and return on financial assets while managing risk exposure to interest rates, exchange rates, and commodity fluctuations at Penn State Great Valley's STEM-designated Master of Finance program. 

With the AACSB-accredited Penn State Great Valley Master of Finance program, you can:

  • Pursue your degree part-time at your own pace, or full-time in as little as 15-18 months.

Program Advantages

  • Advance your career or prepare for professional certifications, including the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA) or Certified Financial Planning (CFP).
  • Have opportunities to interact with the CFA Institute, including networking events and the CFA Dinner.
  • Participate in educational events offered through the Finance Innovation Research and Education (FIRE) Lab, allowing you to network with industry experts and learn to adapt to the evolving landscape of finance and technology.
  • Partner with leading employers and alumni to foster industry connections, networking, and job opportunities.
  • Immerse yourself in small classes taught by world-class faculty and industry experts, and develop meaningful relationships with faculty and classmates who are business professionals and managers in the private and public sectors.
  • Take advantage of Career Services, which offers a variety of programs, resources, and networking opportunities for students and graduates.
  • Benefit from a STEM-designated program, allowing 36 months total of Optional Practical Training (OPT).
  • Simultaneously pursue another degree as part of the concurrent degree program.

Flexibility & Delivery

The Master of Finance features two delivery options: hybrid delivery or fully online. 

Hybrid 

Hybrid delivery combines flexibility with the advantages of in-person instruction on our state-of-the-art campus. Courses are delivered in convenient, seven-week sessions via an in-person/online hybrid format. Many of these courses meet once a week in person and once a week online. Some courses may be delivered fully online.

Hybrid courses meet requirements for international students studying on an F-1 or J-1 visa.

Curriculum

The 33-credit program spans topics ranging from practical business applications used to manage current financial challenges to advanced financial theories that can address future trends. You'll focus on:

  • Financial modeling, including capital budgeting, basic statistics, and forecasting.
  • Financial accounting, its principles, and related decision making.
  • Advanced topics involving strategic financial decisions, including capital structure and cost of capital, valuation, and corporate control.
  • Multinational financial management for companies subject to foreign exchange risk exposure and different tax regulations in foreign countries.
  • Financial derivative securities covering options, forwards, futures, and OTC derivatives.
