Curriculum & Course Descriptions

The Master of Engineering Management degree requires 33 credits—18 core credits, 12 elective credits, and 3 capstone credits. You must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) throughout the program. A 3.0 cumulative GPA is required to graduate.

Courses are listed below, with course descriptions provided via links to the University Bulletin. Please refer to the prerequisites mentioned on this page, as those listed on the University Bulletin or on the LionPath registration page may differ from Penn State Great Valley. All courses offered are three credits unless otherwise indicated.

Penn State’s Schedule of Courses lists course availability. General questions should be sent to [email protected]. Contact your assigned faculty advisor for advice on course selection. 

Enrolling in online courses is largely limited to summer semesters. Ask your academic advisor if you are eligible to enroll in online classes, and forward your advisor's written permission to [email protected] to request enrollment.

Required Engineering Management Courses and Capstone

These core courses are offered at least once a year during fall and spring semesters.

ENGMT 501 - Engineering Management Science

ENGMT 510 - Economics and Financial Studies for Engineers

SYSEN/ENGMT 536 - Decision and Risk Analysis in Engineering

SYSEN/ENGMT 805 - Technical Project Management

ENGMT 841 - Application of Statistics in Quality & Continuous Improvement in Eng.

SYSEN/ENGMT 850 - Creativity and Problem Solving I

ENGMT 539 - Engineering Management Strategy
To be taken after completing 27 credits in the program. The capstone course is only offered in fall semesters.

SARI (Scholarship and Research Integrity) Required Online Activity
You must successfully complete the SARI requirement of the Penn State degree in order to graduate. The SARI Module is offered only in spring and fall semesters.

BA 800 - Marketing Management

BA 810 - Operations Management
Prerequisites for ENGMT students: ENGMT 501 and ENGMT 510

BADM 828 - Negotiations

DAAN 871- Data Visualization for Analytics

DAAN 881 - Data-Driven Decision Making
Prerequisite: STAT 500 or ENGMT 841

DAAN 897 - Enterprise Analytics Strategies

ENGMT 520 - Systems Optimization

IE 575 - Foundations of Predictive Analytics
Prerequisite: STAT 500 or ENGMT 841

MNGMT 511- Organizational Behavior
(offered online only)

STAT 500 - Applied Statistics

STS 589 - Ethics and Values in Science and Technology

SYSEN 532 - Simulation in Systems Engineering: Discrete-Time Systems

SYSEN 555 - Invention and Creative Design
SYSEN 850 is recommended prior to SYSEN 555 but not required.
