Student brings century-old data to life

When Heather Myers registered for a data visualization course this past spring, she anticipated learning techniques and tools to depict large amounts of data. Little did she know she would receive global recognition from Tableau, a leader in business intelligence and analytics software. Her interactive map of Pennsylvania depicting the value of farms and amounts of livestock provides users with a glimpse into agricultural life in 1850.

Big data lab research provides students with competitive advantage

Two Master of Information Science students at Penn State Great Valley will graduate with job offers thanks to their studies and hands-on research experience. As part of a team, the students worked with faculty in the campus' big data lab to analyze the public's feelings during the recent election.

Musser Fellowship awarded to young entrepreneur

This year's recipient of the Warren V. Musser Fellowship in Entrepreneurial Studies is Francine Way, a student in the Master of Finance program. Growing up in Indonesia, she was immersed in an entrepreneurial culture at a young age, and founded her own social impact business in 2015. As a Musser Fellow, she’s helping Penn State Great Valley’s REV-UP Center for Entrepreneurship launch and grow.

Student-built robo-inspector fends off flooding, erosion

Purchasing a $60,000 video robot to inspect stormwater pipes didn’t fit into the budget for one Pennsylvania municipality, so officials turned to students in Penn State's Philadelphia regional engineering degree. They delivered Stormbot on time and way, way under budget.
