Curriculum & Course Descriptions

The Master of Science in Information Science degree requires 33 credits—18 core credits, 12 elective credits, and 3 capstone credits. You must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0 (B) throughout the program. A 3.0 cumulative GPA is required to graduate.

Courses are listed below, with course descriptions provided via links to the University Bulletin. Please refer to the prerequisites mentioned on this page, as those listed on the University Bulletin may differ from Penn State Great Valley. All courses offered are three credits unless otherwise indicated.

INSC/SWENG 568 - Enterprise Integration

INSC 594 - Research Topics (Capstone Course)
Only available in fall semesters. You must have completed at least seven courses to be eligible to enroll in the capstone course. Contact [email protected] to request approval and enrollment. 

SARI (Scholarship and Research Integrity) Required Online Activity
You must successfully complete the SARI requirement of the Penn State degree in order to graduate. The SARI Module is offered only in spring and fall semesters.

A-I 570 – Deep Learning

A-I 572 – Reinforcement Learning
Division approval needed – contact [email protected] to request approval and enrollment.

A-I 801 - Foundations of Artificial Intelligence 
Prerequisite: A-I/DAAN 500 or STAT 500 (Division approval needed – contact [email protected] to request approval and enrollment.)

DAAN 825 - Large Scale Database and Warehouse

DAAN/INSC 846 – Network and Predictive Analytics for Socio-Technical Systems

DAAN 862 – Analytics Programming in Python 
Prerequisite: A-I/DAAN 500 or STAT 500

DAAN 871 - Data Visualization for Analytics

DAAN 881 - Data-Driven Decision Making
Prerequisite: STAT 500 or A-I/DAAN 500

DAAN 897 - Enterprise Analytics Strategies

ENGMT 520 – Systems Optimization

IE 575 - Foundations of Predictive Analytics
Prerequisite: STAT 500 or A-I/DAAN 500

INSC 521 - Database Design Concepts

STS 589 - Ethics and Values in Science and Technology

SWENG 826 - Applied Human-Computer Interaction
Previously offered as SWENG 497 Special Topics: Human Computer Interface

SYSEN 532 - Simulation in Systems Engineering – Discrete-time Systems

SYSEN 536 - Decision and Risk Analysis in Engineering

SYSEN 555 - Invention and Creative Design

SYSEN 805 - Technical Project Management
NOTE: You may take either SWENG 805 Software Project Management or SYSEN 805 Technical Project Management.
