The City of Philadelphia

Approximately 40 kilometers from campus, the City of Philadelphia is the largest city in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, one of the largest in the United States, and is consistently listed as a top U.S. tourist destination.

You can easily travel to Center City Philadelphia from the train station near campus—more information on the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) schedules can be found here. SEPTA also offers transportation services in the city so you can explore different areas.

Often referred to by locals as "Philly," the city has a wealth of world-class restaurants and entertainment venues, including The Met Philadelphia, Walnut Street Theatre, and Helium Comedy Club. If you want to attend a sporting event, most of the city’s professional teams are conveniently located in the sports complex.

You can learn more about the city’s historical significance at the National Constitution Center, Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell Center, and numerous other places in and around the Old City neighborhood. The city also has a variety of other museums that focus on other topics, including the Franklin Institute, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Eastern State Penitentiary, and Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens.

If you’re looking for spots to take photos or selfies, Philly’s iconic landmarks include Love Park, City Hall, Boathouse Row, and the Art Museum steps featured in the 1976 film Rocky.

There’s much more you can do and see in the city; for more information, check out the Visit Philadelphia website. For a student-centric guide to the city, including information about student discounts, visit the Campus Philly website.
