MALVERN, Pa. — Karen Norheim, president and COO of American Crane & Equipment Corporation, will deliver the commencement address at Penn State Great Valley at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 7.
American Crane was founded by Norheim’s family more than 20 years ago and is a leading manufacturer of cranes, hoists and other material-handling equipment, as well as components for nuclear applications.
Norheim’s knowledge and accomplishments in mentorship and her extensive knowledge have established her as a leader in the industry. She advocates for young people — particularly women — to pursue careers in manufacturing. She is a frequent speaker at local schools and professional organizations, where she emphasizes the benefits of manufacturing jobs and the quality of life they can offer.
In addition to her many roles within American Crane, Norheim is involved with many industry-leading organizations, including as vice president of Crane Manufacturers Association of America Inc., and as chairperson of the National Board of Women in Manufacturing. As an appointed leader in the Next Gen Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership of the Greater Reading Chamber Alliance, she has supported the identification of common areas for regional growth, talent development, and workforce pipeline solutions.
Norheim is a three-time Penn State alumnae, holding a bachelor of science degree in marketing and international business, and international studies; a master's in information science, and an MBA.
This year’s in-person commencement ceremony on campus is for spring 2021 Great Valley graduates only. More information can be found here.
