Penn State Bookstore Scholarship to benefit Great Valley students

Penn State Great Valley has received a grant from Barnes & Noble College to establish the Penn State Bookstore Scholarship. The scholarship will provide five students with $2,500 and a $500 Barnes & Noble gift card to purchase textbooks in the Spring 2022 semester.

The grant program was launched in 2015, and this year’s grants distributed $165,000 across 11 University initiatives.

As a special mission campus focused on graduate education, Penn State Great Valley caters to working professionals and full-time students. Graduate scholarship support can reduce the financial burden on current and future students, many of whom are already carrying significant debt from their undergraduate education or who have families depending upon them.

These five scholarships will benefit Great Valley graduate students with financial need in the spring semester.

“Our vision of a vibrant graduate student community depends on our ability to attract and retain top students and to provide them with competitive support,” said JoAnn Kelly, director of enrollment management and student services. “We are very grateful for the scholarships provided by Barnes and Noble, as a more robust financial package will help ensure that students can focus their attention to the intensive work a graduate degree requires, and ultimately enable them to launch extraordinary careers with world-class corporations, academia, and beyond – careers that change lives and make a difference in the world.”

This investment from Barnes & Noble will advance "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence," a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni, friends and corporate partners like Barnes & Noble College, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
