Penn State Great Valley is hosting a Chester County Art Association exhibit this fall. "Painted Country Views," oil paintings by local artist Heather Davis, will be on display in the Student Lounge in the Main Building of Penn State Great Valley from Sept. 24 through Dec. 12. The opening reception is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24. The reception is free and open to the public; registration is required at https://paintedcountryviews.eventbrite.com.
“The paintings are a result of various plein air treks throughout the summer … places you know … places you go … that capture the beauty and light of the images in my world,” said artist Heather Davis.
Davis grew up in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Marple Newtown High School with honors and an art scholarship. She went on to attend Rhode Island School of Design and earn a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting. Post-graduation, she worked in the building trades and owned her own contracting firm for many years leaving a trail of murals, sculptures and mosaics in homes throughout Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. She currently resides in Chester County.
In June 2013, after a moving experience at a Jamie Wyeth opening, she made the decision to give up her former career in order to paint full time. She proceeded to win first place in the 2013 Brandywine Valley Plein Air competition as well as win the Invitational Exhibition at the Chester County Art Association in April 2014.
