MALVERN, Pa. — After an almost two-and-a-half-year hiatus, Penn State Great Valley returned to the greens for its ninth annual golf outing. The event raised $42,500 to support the Penn State Great Valley LaunchBox powered by Penn State, which encourages community members, students, and faculty to generate innovative and commercially-viable solutions to existing and emerging business and social needs. Penn State matched the amount for a total of $85,000 to establish the Advisory Board and Friends of Penn State Great Valley LaunchBox Endowment.
The event was initially scheduled to take place in May 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After a few date changes, the event, presented by Di and Dallas Krapf, was held at Applecross Country Club in Downingtown on Aug. 24. Penn State alumnus and former NFL defensive tackle Brandon Noble, a 1998 graduate in Liberal Arts, headlined the event as the keynote speaker.
Participants enjoyed lunch, sponsored by RWR Insurance; a cocktail hour, sponsored by Joe Henry; and dinner, sponsored by NSM Insurance Group. A variety of other local businesses and individuals also generously supported the outing.
The event advanced "A Greater Penn State for 21st Century Excellence," a focused campaign that seeks to elevate Penn State’s position as a leading public university in a world defined by rapid change and global connections. With the support of alumni and friends, “A Greater Penn State” seeks to fulfill the three key imperatives of a 21st-century public university: keeping the doors to higher education open to hardworking students regardless of financial well-being; creating transformative experiences that go beyond the classroom; and impacting the world by serving communities and fueling discovery, innovation and entrepreneurship.
