Joanna DeFranco, associate professor of software engineering and associate director of Penn State World Campus’ Doctor of Engineering program, is working with researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop the Secure Federated Data Sharing system, which allows secure data access where the data resides, rather than exchanging or being centrally stored.
Penn State Great Valley hosted its 11th annual golf outing at Applecross Country Club in Downingtown on May 16. The event exceeded its goal and raised $32,000 to support Great Valley student scholarships.
The campus hosted a scholarship brunch on Saturday, April 22, to bring together 40 donors and students to celebrate the impact of philanthropy. For the summer 2022, fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters, 21 donor-funded scholarships were awarded to 50 students, with funds totaling over $181,000.

Penn State Great Valley’s MNGMT 897 Global Immersion course trip to Strasbourg, France, took a while to get off the ground — literally. The course was first offered in spring 2020, but, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the international travel component was canceled just three days before the class was set to leave the United States. Three years later, Great Valley was able to hold the course with a successful trip abroad.
