The solid waste and recycling sub-committee is tasked with raising awareness of the need to reduce, reuse, recycle, and refuse materials that are harmful to our environment. Recyclable items include plastics, paper, aluminum and glass cans, and other objects that can re-manufactured.
As responsible consumers, we can exercise our right to purchase goods from companies that institute recycling programs or manufacture in more sustainable ways. We can also refuse to purchase certain products. Another simply way to promote change is to buy reusable containers for water and food, thus eliminating wasted paper and plastic.
The sub-committee is also responsible for taking the lead on events pertaining to recycling and solid waste management, supporting efforts to provide resources such as cans and bins, and working with vendors, students, faculty, and staff to promote sustainable consumption behaviors.
