Course Overview

To build upon the topics covered in Android Application Development, this course delves into more advanced topics in Android development and will also cover good software engineering practices like using source control, unit testing and software design. Students will learn about data storage options, fragments, widgets and the use of APIs in and Android application.

Course Scope and Sequence

This 21-hour course consists of face-to-face lecture and class discussion. Each week will cover Android development and software development practices.


Students should be experienced with Object-Oriented Java programming and proficient with Android Studio.

Who Should Attend

Advanced Android Application Development is designed for intermediate to experienced programmers. It is also appropriate for students who have completed Introduction to Programming Concepts Using Java, Object-Oriented Java Programming, and Android Application Development.

Course Objectives

Students will learn the importance of each step in the development process. By looking at requirements gathering, source control, design, development and testing, students will gain a greater understanding of real-world software projects.

Continuing Education Units

Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are awarded based on a standard of one unit per ten (10) hours of classroom contact.
