After 20 years of experience climbing the corporate ladder, Ivan Concepcion, a corporate assistant controller, finds himself back in school, pursuing a master’s degree in finance. With an impressive resume, Concepcion enrolled in the program not to seek a raise or a promotion, but rather to provide value to his company.
Penn State Great Valley students and alumni recently used their data analysis and coding skills in a state-wide challenge to fight the opioid epidemic. The team developed Ve-Care, a mobile application to help veterans transition back to their daily lives after service and ultimately prevent substance abuse.
Penn State Great Valley will launch a new, noncredit supply chain management certificate this spring. The 3-course program will be offered in Malvern and at Penn State at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia.
Teaching and Learning with Technology at Penn State has named its four TLT Faculty Fellows for the 2018-19 academic year — David Hunter, Kathryn W. Jablokow, Karen Kackley-Dutt, and Alan Wagner. This year's TLT Faculty Fellows will work on projects covering data science, digital fluency, immersive experiences, and robotics.
As part of an ongoing grant from the National Science Foundation, Kathryn Jablokow, professor of engineering design and mechanical engineering at Penn State Great Valley, worked alongside Mohamed Megahed and Pratik Pachpute, two Great Valley graduate students, to study the effectiveness of entrepreneurial teams. Their research paper won second place in the entrepreneurial division of the American Society for Engineering Education.
Penn State Great Valley will host the annual Tech360 conference 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 18. Now in its sixth year, the event draws IT professionals, thought leaders, and industry innovators from the area’s top companies to discuss how to best leverage the latest technology in today’s business climate.
Penn State Great Valley will hold the second annual Lion Cage pitch competition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10. The day will feature a pitch competition from early-stage entrepreneurs and a keynote address from Wayne Kimmel, managing partner of SeventySix Capital. A total of $5,000 in prizes will be awarded.
More than 10 graduate international students from Penn State Great Valley participated in internships this summer where they sharpened their technical and interpersonal skills. Several students share their experiences and how it prepared them for future careers.
Currently, seven campus police stations are equipped with naloxone, including Beaver, Berks, Brandywine, DuBois, Erie, Great Valley and University Park. Administrators continue to work with local and county agencies to equip officers with naloxone at the remaining campuses.
When issues and topics are controversial, conversations can quickly turn uncomfortable and divisive. To facilitate productive debate and discussion, Penn State Great Valley is holding “Conflict Is Not a Dirty Word,” a free event open to the public on Sept. 26.
